Description | Imperial white porcelain of the Yongle period is called tianbai, known for its almost pure white, thick and clear glaze. This piece bears an inscription "neifu" in underglaze blue, adding an imposing atmosphere to the vase which deserves to be a ware for court use. The decoration has been applied only on the lid and when it is placed on the mouth, the whole meiping vase is given a sense of refinement and elegance. The interior of the lid has a cylindrical support to secure it over the mouth. Similar examples without lids are found in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. |
