Description Vases like this piece, with a long, slim neck and a globular body, is known in Japan as "crane-necked vase". The form is thought to have originated from the Chinese Yue celadon ware, though in Korea the body became rounder through time. The technique of inlay decoration came into use, which is also a Korean invention. On the body of this piece, a lotus scroll in a single vine covers the body and lotus flowers are placed on four sides. The decoration has been made using the reverse inlay technique, in which the background of the motif was carved away and filled in with white slip. This unique technique makes this piece extremely rare, for this is the only known example of a long-necked vase with a reverse inlay decoration.
