Description | This is a typical buncheong jar with an elongated body of the early Joseon dynasty and its rather slender form delivers an atmosphere of the early phase. After the whole body was covered with white slip, the sgraffito technique was used to depict lotus petals on the shoulder and a large peony flower dominating the center of the body. The production center of buncheong ware in such style was the Chunghyo-dong kiln in Gwangju-si, Jeollanam-do, and this piece, although the kiln site cannot be identified, was probably made in one of the provincial kilns near this area. |
