Description | This piece was made by covering the whole body with iron paint under the celadon glaze, which develops a black color after firing. While this piece has white-slip inlay, incised or trailed white-slip decoration can be found as well, though they are rare. In Japan such ware is known as "kuro-gorai (black celadon)". The decoration on this piece, a willow carved and inlaid in white slip, is uncommon. Such type of celadon was discovered at the kiln site of Sadang-ri in Daegu-myon, Kangjin-gun as well as Jinsal-ri in Sani-myeon, Haenam-gun, both in Chunranam-do. |
